Lies dich selbst (Read Yourself) is the first book in which face reader Eric Standop turns the direction around: instead of reading other people, you learn to read yourself. 19 stories from his practice, 16 exercises, 21 illustrations and 2 self-tests make it something to work with rather than something to look up. Published in German only on 17 October 2026, paperback, 240 pages, 22.00 euros, ISBN 978-3-7589-0339-7.
What the book is about
What you find in the book
You do not only read, you practise. 16 exercises put you to work.
Two points where you check the result on yourself instead of taking the book's word for it.
You read people, not theory. From Eric Standop's practice, no constructed cases.
You do not have to picture it yourself. The drawings show what the text describes.
Paperback, 240 pages, 22.00 euros. Published on 17 October 2026, in German only.

Why your own face is harder to read than anyone else's
For over twenty years Eric Standop's work was work on other people: executives facing decisions, teams in conflict, people at turning points. His earlier books pass on exactly that, how to see in someone else what they do not say out loud.
With your own face that practice fails. You see it every day and still never look at it. What you look for in the mirror you have long since decided. That is why Lies dich selbst works with exercises and self-tests instead of pure theory: they lead your gaze to where habit usually steers it past.
The book does not judge. It makes no health claims and does not replace a conversation with professionals.
Who it is written for, and who it is not for
The book fits you if you know Eric's earlier books and now want to turn the view on yourself. Or if you have never had anything to do with face reading: Lies dich selbst starts with the basics, no prior knowledge needed.
It does not fit you if you want to learn to read other people. Ich lese dich and Read the Face are written for that, this book goes the other way. And it does not fit if you are looking for a health reading: the book makes no diagnosis and answers no medical questions.
Which book by Eric Standop first?
There are several ways in, and they lead to different places:

Lies dich selbst (2026)
The right start if it is about you. Exercises and self-tests, no prior knowledge needed.

Ich lese dich (2020)
The way in if you want to understand other people better: the basics of face reading.

Ich lese deine Lebensaufgabe (2022)
Explores how talents and vocation show in the face.

If you want to start with yourself, start with Lies dich selbst. Everything else builds on it or beside it, not above it.
Who guides you through the book

Over 15,000 faces in 22 countries. That is where Eric Standop learned what he writes about faces, not from theory. He learned his craft studying under masters across three continents, and his publisher GU describes him as a world-renowned master of face reading.
He has written 17 books in 9 languages, among them Read the Face with St. Martin's Essentials. In 2018 he spoke at TEDxBeaconStreet, and his clients include leaders such as Ric Elias, co-founder and CEO of Red Ventures. Anyone who has read that many faces also knows the places where people avoid themselves.
If you are looking for a personal perspective after reading, you will find it in Executive Advisory with Eric Standop: confidential guidance for decisions that turn on people. If you want to go deeper into the method, the way is the Mentorship, limited to eight places.

Frequently asked questions
I have already read Ich lese dich. Is this book still worth it?
Yes, because it goes in the other direction. Ich lese dich teaches you to read other people. Lies dich selbst applies the same observation to you, with exercises and two self-tests instead of pure theory.
Is Lies dich selbst a health guide?
No. It is a book about self-perception and orientation. It makes no medical diagnosis, no health claims, and does not replace professional advice.
How does the book approach your own face?
Through three routes: decoding the language of the body, listening to the stories your face tells, and recognising the patterns in your own behaviour. It is carried by the exercises and self-tests, not by pure theory. Explicitly not self-optimisation, but orientation.
Is there an e-book or an audiobook?
An audiobook is planned. Nothing has been confirmed for an e-book edition. As soon as the publisher announces dates, they will appear here.
Is the book available in English?
No. Lies dich selbst is published in German only. Eric Standop's English book is Read the Face (St. Martin's Essentials).
Working with Eric
If you would rather have Eric's method applied to your own situation than read about it, the way there is short.
You book an introductory call, brief and confidential. You clarify the question, the setting and the format. Only then do you decide whether and how to work together. No obligation, in English or German, worldwide.
The Facereading Academy, founded by Eric Standop, is a centre for the art of face reading. It combines traditional knowledge with modern science and shows what the face says about personality, strengths and life goals.
